What Families Can Expect for Assessment Costs

Most psychologists and psychological associates in Ontario charge between $225 and $260 per hour for assessment and treatment services. According to the 2024 Ontario Psychological Services Report—a province-wide survey of over 700 psychologists—the typical fee is approximately $250 per hour, with only minor variations across specialties and regions. This helps families understand what to expect when accessing psychological support throughout Ontario.

Our practice charges $220 per hour. A typical psychoeducational assessment requires more than 12 hours of preparation, direct meetings, and report writing, with the base cost for an assessment starting at $2,640. Assessments that cover additional areas, such as attentional functioning or autism spectrum disorder, necessitate more time and consequently increase the overall cost. An estimate for services will be supplied once we gather more details about the specific student.

Many health insurance plans cover psychoeducational assessments. We do not directly bill insurance companies; instead, families pay us for the service and can then submit their invoice for reimbursement through their insurance plan. Invoicing occurs at three stages, billed hourly:

- Invoice 1: Following the referral and intake appointment (approximately $220)
- Invoice 2: On the assessment appointment date (approximately $1,100)
- Invoice 3: When the report is complete (approximately $1,320)

Payment can be made via debit or credit card, e-transfer, cash, or cheque.
